Unlocking Sidcup's potential

Strategic Perspectives LLP (SP) was commissioned last month by the London Borough of Bexley to carry out an economic and commercial study for the Sidcup area. The town has suffered from significant decline in retail over the last five years. The study, due to be completed by June this year, will help the Council make informed decisions on its strategy for Sidcup's future development.

The study will involve detailed consultations with the community, local businesses and other stakeholders. There will also be economic analysis and commercial testing of different options for the future development of the centre.

Cllr Linda Bailey, Bexley's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, commented: "The Council is committed to maintaining the long term vitality of Sidcup. We have appointed SP to ensure we have the most up to date and accurate assessment of retailing and related needs within Sidcup Town Centre, to enable us to plan the town's future in the most effective way.

"This study will help us identify the most suitable steps to help the future growth and renewal of Sidcup, to the benefit of everybody living, working and shopping in the area."

SP provides specialist retail planning and town centre consultancy and development advice for both the public and private sectors. Dr Steven Norris, head of SP said: "We are delighted to have been instructed to carry out this important strategic study which will help to unlock the potential for new investment and development in Sidcup over the next 10-15 years."
