A weekly baby and toddler group has secured an £800 donation from leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes South East to create a cosy story corner and to buy new furniture.
Organisers of the Aylesham-based ABC Group applied to the company’s Community Champions scheme for funding and have landed the cash to help fund the purchasing of new furniture and replacing worn out equipment.
Michelle Sleith, who made the successful bid on behalf of the group, which meets at the Baptist Church on Dorman Avenue South, each Friday morning, said: “We rely solely on donations from parents/ carers to help with organising activities and providing a healthy snack at the sessions, but we only ask for donations as we are aware that some people do not have the funds and we would much rather enjoy their presence.
“It is not just a place for the little ones to play, but for the adults to share experiences and gain support if and when it is needed as we have learnt not everyone has family and friends around them.
“Some of our equipment has become worn out and we would like to be able to replace it as well as creating a cosy story area and buying some suitable furniture for the children to sit and eat a snack.
“The £800 donation will be a big boost to the group and we are delighted that Persimmon Homes South East has supported us so generously.”
Martin Crick, head of sales and marketing for Persimmon Homes South East, based in Maidstone, said the Community Champions scheme was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.
He said: “The ABC Group offers parents and children the opportunity to spend some quality time together and the chance to build a strong support network for families within the community and we are delighted to support the group with this donation.”
Persimmon Homes South East Community Champions fund has £2,000 each month to share between two worthy causes to match their fundraising activities.
Martin added: “We are committed to helping good causes in the towns and cities in which we are building. We are enjoying great success in Aylesham at our Persimmon@Aylesham Village development where we have a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes available, with prices starting from £160,950.
“We have had a fantastic response to the Community Champions scheme. If people have previously been unsuccessful, we urge them to apply again and potentially become our next Community Champion.”
